    Baptist World Alliance Releases Holistic Mission Guide

    Global Contributors Share Ways the Church Can Respond to Crisis

    In response to ongoing global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Baptist World Alliance is releasing "A Holistic Mission Guide: The Church's Response in Times of Crisis." Drawing upon diverse theological reflections and featuring stories of how Baptists around the world are living out God’s unchanging mission, this globally-sourced resource is designed to encourage and equip the Church at this critical time.

    "As the world has plunged into suffering of unimaginable proportion and both the churched and unchurched have groped in the dark for answers, the Church has had to rise to the occasion in fulfilling its prophetic, priestly, and compassionate functions," said Everton Jackson, BWA Director of Integral Mission. "Together we have found a new way of being church. Therefore, the BWA Holistic Mission Guide is a compilation of case studies, stories, videos, and theological reflections from Baptists around the world outlining how they have interpreted and responded to the unprecedented challenges created by the coronavirus."

    The BWA Holistic Mission Guide contains over fifty articles with contributions from all six regional fellowships of the BWA. In addition to this collated guide, a Mission Guide online portal has been created that includes all articles as well as accompanying video content. The content can be searched by article type (theological reflections, grassroots stories, and practical guidelines), topic, language, author, or region using an interactive map.

    It was collated and edited by a working group chaired by Kang-San Tan (General Director of BMS World Mission and BWA Executive Committee member) and comprised of regionally-representative ministry leaders and members of the BWA Commission on Mission. John Chan (Canadian Baptist Ministries) provided leadership of the editorial committee and Stephanie Brown (BMS World Mission) served as the lead administrator for the committee. Additional committee members and project developers included Moses Adebayo, Glenn Mark Arnobit, Bouo Bonha, Ann Borquist, Joe Bush, Mark Craig, José DaSilva, Patricia Echegoyen, Grace Fong, Brenda Harewood, Johnathan Hemmings, Ingeborg Janssen, Everton Jackson, Merritt Johnston, Febe Mackey, Tomás Mackey, Carolina Mangieri, Bobbye Marrs, Roshan Mendis, Carla Nelson, Joyce Porto, Sammy Tippit, and Julie Justus Williams.

    "I want to express my thanks to everyone on the committee for their time, commitment, and collaboration," said Tan. "It is my prayer that this resource will be a great support for the global Baptist family."

    Each article within the guide features a series of questions to be used for personal reflection or group discussion, enabling it to be a launching point for meaningful dialogue and transformational growth.

    "The Holistic Mission Guide is a powerful reminder of God’s unchanging mission. It is a collective testimony that holistic witness requires verbal proclamation, relational connectivity, justice, and transformational empowerment. It is our prayer that as we listen to one another as a global community shaped by particular experiences, locations, and cultures, we will draw closer to one another and hear more clearly the voice of God calling us to a world which he so loves. May the Lord bring his renewal and revival," said BWA General Secretary Elijah Brown.

    BWA 통합 미션 디렉터인 Everton Jackson은 "세상이 상상할 수 없는 고통에 빠졌고, 교인이든 아니든 현재의 해답을 찾고 있기 때문에, 교회는 예언적, 사제적, 구호적 기능을 수행해야 합니다. 우리는 함께 교회가 되는 새로운 방법을 찾았습니다. 따라서 BWA Holistic Mission Guide는 전 세계 침례교의 사례 연구, 이야기, 비디오 및 신학적 성찰을 모아서 코로나 시대의 전례없는 도전에 대해 어떻게 해석하고 대응했는지 설명합니다"라고 말했습니다. 

    BWA Holistic Mission Guide에는 BWA의 6개 지역 모두에서 기고한 50개 이상의 논문이 포함되어 있습니다. 이 외에도 모든 논문과 함께 제공되는 비디오 콘텐츠가 포함된 Mission Guide 온라인 포털이 생성되었습니다. 콘텐츠는 대화형 맵을 사용하여 기사 유형 (신학적 성찰, 풀뿌리 이야기 및 실제적 지침), 주제, 언어, 저자 또는 지역별로 검색할 수 있습니다.

    Kang-San Tan(BMS 월드 미션 총감독 및 BWA 실행위원회 위원)이 의장을 맡고 지역 대표 사역 지도자와 BWA 선교위원회 위원으로 구성된 실무 그룹이 수집하고 편집했습니다.
